Château Castelrey is perfectly located to enjoy life! Here you can relax in exclusive and quiet surroundings by the pool or on the terrace. In the garden there are several romantic and secluded benches and "secret" places perfect for private walks and talks. You can stroll around on small paths and discover new favourite places on the property that is as much as 8 hectares big. In the gaden you will also find a "Bolè drome", which is a pit for playing Boccia or Petanque. We also have a court for playing a game of crocket. If you would like to practice your golf putting we have a bumpy green that is worthy a champion to master! If you would like to get to know our surroundings, we recommend that you use a bike. The area is ideal for cycling.
At Château Castelrey we welcome groups who will either celebrate an event, who seek new inspiration for their work or just want to enjoy the good life in France. We will provide a comfortable stay at the castle, or in one of the small houses on the property, the “Gate keeper’s House” or the “Gardener’s House”. All visits have to be booked in due time prior to arrival. You will start the day with a delicious French breakfast in the château and plan your stay according to your own desire and interests.
We offer every meal to our guests at the château, except for guests who have booked a stay in our guest houses and who have chosen self catering. All meals in addition to breakfast have to be ordered upon arrival. If you do not want to organize the activities your self during your stay, the hosts at Castelrey are happy to assist you upon arrival, be it renting bikes, kayaks, a game of golf, canal boats, restaurant visits, visits to wine estates or guided tours to charming villages nearby, such as Villeneuve sur Lot and Saint Èmilion.
Lot et Garonne and the Pont du Casse area is ideal for cycling, whether you want a relaxing tour with a bike with a basket on the handlebars or to take a training trip on a road bike/racing bike. It is cycling distance between the many charming small villages all of them perfect for pleasant stops at sidewalk cafes or at the local bakery. The hills and ridges provide whatever you need of challenge and the scenic landscapes along the canals are just breath taking.
Castelrey is sheltered on a ridge, with a nice view over the valley beneath and the hills around us. The nearest city is Agen with about 35,000 inhabitants, about 10 minutes from us. The old town of Agen has kept its authentic architecture and atmosphere with the cathedral, the charming narrow streets, the markets, the canals and all the sidewalk cafes and restaurants.
Do you enjoy playing golf? There are two great golf courses about 30 minutes from us, which also can be visited by those who do not play golf. The golf courses offer magnificent parks that are pleasant for walks and there is a good possibility that a delicious lunch is up for service.
In our area there is a network of canals, which are fantastic for trips either by canal boat, kayak or to cycle along. You can bring your lunch with you on the bike; freshly baked baguettes, tasty cheeses, local ham, and the most delicious drinks from the region. You can also stop at one of the many restaurants or vineyards who offer really nice lunches. Lot et Garonne is known for warm and comfortable days most of the year. The spring starts in February/March and the summer lasts into October.
